What Is It?
Active Folate represents an innovative dietary supplement designed to act as a nutrient in all areas where Folic acid and Folate metabolism is impaired.
Human cannot synthesize Folate and because of its water soluble nature, the body stores Folate to a limited extent. Unfortunately Folates contained in foods are unstable and susceptible to oxidation; they rapidly lose activity during food processing.
After ingestion of folates from food or supplements they are metabolized to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the active form of the B-vitamin folic acid (the form found in this supplement).
How common Folate Deficiency is ?
Folate deficiency represents one of the most common nutritional deficiencies and may occur with inadequate dietary intake or when an increased need is not matched by an increased intake (particular physiological conditions such as pregnancy, lactation, child growth). Another occurrence is altered absorption/excretion (or losses) and when metabolism or certain drug use interferes with the ability of the body to use Folate.
Multiple conditions can lead to folate deficiency such as, malabsorption, enzyme defects, digestive system pathology, liver disease and situation of high rate of cell turnover such as rapid tissue growth (infants, kids and adolescents) pregnancy and lactation.
Uses of Active Folate
Cellular function: This water-soluble B-complex vitamin is essential for the maintenance of cellular functions and health. Folate deficiency is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies and eating folate-rich foods may not always provide the recommended daily dosage*.
Genetic impairments: Certain population have impairments in the metabolism and therefore are at increased risk of folate deficiencies. The form used in our supplement provides the active form of folate, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, naturally present in the body and available for its biological action.
Homocysteine: Folate deficiency is associated with elevated levels of homocysteine, cerebrovascular and neurological diseases, and mood disorders.
